Crucially, Things can also operate as per their intended purpose outside their state of origin (see §17.00.05. Artificial Beings, in principle, cannot: words and money can, of course, process information outside their state of origin but with limitations (for example, understanding of a foreign language or through currency exchange rates). The case of computer programs, similar to the digital world itself, remains, for the moment, contested.
